Ethnic and community outlets play a significant role in educating, engaging, and mobilizing their readers. As largely independent local news providers, they are an essential pillar in the information ecosystem of their communities and vital for strengthening democracy. In the last decade, local news has come under threat due to economic, technological, and social forces. Launched on April 30th, 2025, LMC’s Voces Fuertes: Latino Media Empowerment Lab will provide critical support to Latino newsrooms across the Southwest to counter these challenges.

The Latino Media Collaborative (LMC) was established in 2019 by experienced Latino journalists and industry leaders to leverage the power of Latino and community news media to impact policy, change narratives, and promote civic engagement, while also supporting advancement of the sector through capacity building, research, and advocacy.
